about

So, this song is quite complicated. I was in the process of exiting one relationship and entering a new one. I can’t say that I am proud of the timing of any of it; however, I know it was necessary for my own personal growth and health that I leave the previous relationship, and I was thankful for the new experiences in the new relationship. At the time, I was quite conflicted on what way I should go for a number of things. During this same time period, I was acting as Romeo in a Shakespeare cabaret, specifically doing the balcony scene. I took much influence from Shakespearean writing for this song, and heavily used the concept of light and dark imagery to convey my emotions. The main line in the song, “I’m one with the moon but I’ve fallen for the sun,” represents that I felt weighted down and exhausted from the old relationship, but felt that I was rediscovering something about myself in the new relationship.

lyrics

I'm one with the moon
But I've fallen for the sun.
Yet both cast light upon my face.
I am trapped in the dark
With nowhere to run
Saying prayers for heaven's grace

I've fallen so far down
And I've lost my sight
Where I can't be saved no more
By the starry night

I'm one with the moon
But I've fallen for the sun
Of who's light I thought I lost... long ago
I stumbled in
And in the shadows stunned
Nothing left of me to show

In the day I don't belong
For I am shackled by the night
Yet I yearn for your loving rays
And warmth of your light

Been so cold and so alone
I refuse who I am
I need a saving light
To guide me to be a man

I'm one with the moon
But I've fallen for the sun
And her warmth I intend to keep
I curse my name
What have I become?
Am I lost within a dream?

Do not swear by the night
And the inconsistent moon
Whatever my choice be made
I lead me to my tomb

I'm one with the moon
But I've fallen for the sun
Which of my sins will I regret?
I've forgotten my home
Yet I feel at one
And I'll stay to still forget
And I'll stay... Juliet
