I wrote Shine in regard to some political unrest in the United States. I wrote it because I was tired of seeing people turn on each other. If we took a moment, people would realize we have more in common than they realize it. This song encourages people to step out of the shadows and let their inner light shine in order to brighten a darkening world. If we all held the torch we keep in our hearts high, there would be less need to fear.

We live in times of darkness
We did it to ourselves

That beholds a bigger task

But there's a stronger blaze

When we look back on our story
We must show we gave our all
At least we all did everything
Everything but fall

And when we tell our story
We must tell them where we've been
For when we pass the torch
They can learn from all our sins
