I wrote Signal to the Sun when I was in a long distance relationship. I would tell my girlfriend at the time to look up at the bright, sunshiny sky because regardless of how far away we were, we could be looking at the same sky at the same time. So, in all reality, we were never really that far apart at all. The song derived from a small poem I wrote for her over that summer. I realized how much I liked where the poem was going, so I later adapted it into the full song.
