about

Tomorrow Man started out as a poem written by my godfather, Tom Macrillo. He wrote it with the concept that one should not be too wrapped up by the past, nor too consumed and afraid of what is to come. He wanted to focus on the importance of living in the moment. He gave me the poem the summer of 2016, and said I may use it for a song, if I so chose. I sat down with it often, unable to develop anything around it, so it just got placed on the shelf for a while. Later on, during my first semester, I took a bus back home for the wake of a former teacher of mine. I remember being on that bus late in the day, dressed in my best black suite, staring off at the lights in the distance, feeling how disheartened and drained that I was. As I looked out into the distance on the bus, I thought of the line, “street lights like fireflies on the highway.” That quickly snowballed into a poem I entitled, “Smile, Baby Blue Eyes.” The poem was referring to a younger version of myself, asking where the child within me had gone. Then in December, as stated before, I went to the Artist Management Showcase. It was at that concert that I made the revelation to combine my poem with my uncle’s to create what is now the song, Tomorrow Man. Looking back on it, the song means a lot to me because the verses represent the many questions I was asking myself at the time, and the chorus, pieces from my uncle’s poem, was the answer.

lyrics

Smile, Baby Blue Eyes
You used to be so bright
You dreamt to rule the world
What’s become of your life?
Smile, young child
Why are you so jaded?
Don’t tell me the city has
Filled you with hatred.
Take a look from above
See the lights from below
See the glimmering streets
And the places yet to go.

Street lights like fireflies on the highway
The melody is moving fast, going my way
Listen to the symphony playing in your heart
Hear that song of hope as it beats for you so hard

Say goodbye to Tomorrow Man
I’m gonna live for today
I’m gonna live my life
I’m gonna learn from my mistakes
Say goodbye to Tomorrow Man
I’m going my way
I’m gonna live my life,
It’s gonna be a good day

Smile, Baby Blue Eyes
You used to be so bright
Tell me of the demons
That are ruling your life
Smile, young child
Don’t fret for what’s ahead
Who the hell told you that
This would be the end?
I used to wander the streets
That I now call home
I used to live with my head in the clouds
But now the past is up and gone

I used to look too far ahead, that was my mistake
Fear of the future had me drowning in the waves.
I put off to tomorrow what I could’ve done today.
How the hell would that ever pave the way?

The Tomorrow Man got nothing on me
Why don’t you take a look, I’m the real emcee
I live for the moment, I live for now
I ain’t thinking of thay final bow
Don’t save for tomorrow what you can do today
Every little moment’s no time to waste
Living every minute. Our time is precious.
Giving it our all with our best intentions
This goes out to every boy and girl
Be the hero in your own world
While you’re wasting your time being a bum
I’ll be on top ‘cause I already won
